Nice To Meet You, I’m Luke.

My Message

I bet the first question you have is, “Did I create this website on my own”? No, I had help from my dad. I asked him about websites and how to create one. He said, “Good Question Luke” and then suggested we do one and make it about me, so I agreed. The hard part is not learning how to create a website but having to produce all the material over the past 8 years of my life. He said that if I did not do these things there would be no website to build. My dad told me creating a website is easy, anyone can do it but having real content where others can confirm your life’s story is most important. He said, “Luke, it’s easy to say anything about yourself, the hard part is having the evidence”. I hope to be able to make that connection with you today. Many of you that know me understand I am not a bragger, and I don’t like talking about myself. I get uncomfortable when the attention is on me, so I did have a difficult time getting comfortable writing about myself and my dad telling me I needed to post all these pictures. My dad said, “Luke, you can’t keep your message hidden, you need to get out there and tell people about Luke Lacilla, because there is going to come a time when you will have to share your story”. Well, he was right because I am applying to a few different private high schools, and they want to know who is Luke Lacilla. So here it goes….

Do The Things You Don’t Want To Do, Push Yourself To Do the Uncomfortable

My Dad

My Athletics

I love playing and competing in both team and individual sports. I play on the LMS Basketball School Team as well as the Travel Route 44 League. I run Cross Country and Track for my school as well as the competitive Litchfield Track Club. I also have a passion for Golf, Tennis, boating, ping pong, bike riding, swimming and going to the gym with my dad.

My Education

I am a straight-A student and have achieved Highest Honors. I try to challenge myself in both in school and outside of school. My parents tell me I need to balance each day not only getting good grades but being well rounded in a variety of things (Sports, an Instrument, Healthy Eating, Community Service and Working To Earn Money)

My Work

I have been working at Petraroia Deli for the past several months, where I am responsible for washing dishes, cleaning tables, taking out the trash, and doing whatever my employer Mr Jennette asks me to do. I started this job because my parents thought it would be good for me to earn my own money and understand how earning a paycheck works. I also opened my own bank account to begin saving money.

Community Service

Outside of school, my extracurricular activities include volunteering my time at the Torrington Soup Kitchen, Possum Queen Foundation, The Festival of Trees, and my Church. The Torrington Soup Kitchen helps to prepare and serve food for people in need. The Possum Queen Foundation provides financial assistance to families and individuals in need and the Oliver Wolcott Library (an event called Festival of Trees).

My Music

Over the past years, I have played the guitar and the piano. My parents bought a piano so I loved the look of this big shiny instrument so I asked if I could learn how to play. I am in my 3rd year of playing and my instructor that comes to the home is great. He comes every Wednesday.

Overcoming Challenges

I am in the 2 percentiles in what doctors describe as “The Clinical Growth Chart”. Percentiles are measurements that show where a kid like myself is compared with other kids as they grow. Comparing is the world we live in today but as a kid, these comparisons are not only difficult but a challenge that I had to overcome. Being small is not terrible but when you are a boy and you’re in the 2% range, many things become a challenge to someone like me.

Inspiration from my Dad

My Dad always told me;
Luke, you have to have real evidence of who you claim to be in your life or it all just becomes a bunch of descriptive and empty words. He always told me that people slowly reveal who they are if your patient and watch closely. You need to see if their words match up to their actions. My dad always challenged me to go out there and put my words into action, as he likes to say, “Luke, show me the evidence”, so here it is….
